January 5 is my wife’s birthday. It’s also important for another reason.
It’s the day an Ohio legend takes the field for one last time as an Ohio State Buckeye.
Lest you think Todd Boeckman is not worthy of such praise, think again. And hard.
Boeckman isn’t just a sixth year senior who lost his starting job to a freshman sensation. Boeckman once was that freshman sensation. He also starred as a sophomore, junior and senior at St. Henry High School.
Few prep athletes in Ohio high school history have done what Boeckman accomplished in his four years at St. Henry.
Few to come will match it. Read the rest of this entry »

TROTWOOD – The Rams’ star power forward, Aaron Robinson didn’t even suit up for the game, but it really didn’t matter because Trotwood-Madison crunched Canal Winchester Harvest Prep, 93-48 on Saturday night anyway.
The Rams move to 5-0, 1-0 in the tough Greater Western Ohio Conference North Division.
Robinson – who is currently battling an undisclosed “garden variety” illness – will return to action in the near future. Maybe even as soon as Tuesday.
“It’s never a good thing when your best player isn’t able to play,” first year T-M head coach Mark Baker said. “But we did some good things. Considering everything – we’ll take the win.” Read the rest of this entry »

The Greater Miami Valley Wrestling Association Holiday Tournament may be held over Christmas break, but there’s no denying the fact that Graham wasn’t in a giving mood this past weekend.
The Falcons rolled to another GMVWA title at the Vandalia-Butler Student Activities Center by racking up 397 points to break their own record for margin of victory. Last year, Graham set the record with a winning margin of 238.5. This season the difference was 269. In all, 12 Falcons claimed titles.
Graham won both the overall and small school title, while Oregon Clay claimed the big school title, edging Miamisburg 128-125. Host Vandalia-Butler was fourth. Read the rest of this entry »

When players lack fundamental ability they do not need to play in tournaments every weekend. They need to be taught what right is and how to correct wrong. Wrong plus wrong equals wrong. Read the rest of this entry »

I’m proud to say I’m no longer dependant on Time Warner for internet, phone or cable.
But as always, TW got one last jab in on the way out.
Thanks to On Demand my four-year old daughter has a new favorite song: Madonna and Justin Timberlake’s “4 minutes.”
The song is appropriate, comical and ironic because “4 minutes” is also the attention span my daughter has when she plays soccer.
Too bad games last 45 minutes.
Ashley started dance last year and that was one thing. Soccer is her first sport. Something totally different. Read the rest of this entry »

BROOKVILLE – Brookville held high-scoring Kaci Finfrock to just two points as it beat visiting Milton-Union 39-31 in a match up of Southwestern Buckeye League Southwest Division contenders Saturday.
The Blue Devils improve to 5-1, 3-0, while M-U slips to 6-1, 4-1.
Trailing 22-11 late in the third quarter and unable to score out of their base offense, M-U pushed the tempo and went on an 18-4 tear to take their only lead of the game, 29-26. But a determined Brookville squad was able close regain its composure and close out the contest with a 13-2 run of its own. Read the rest of this entry »
